One District, One Theme:
Responsibility is the district-wide theme for the 2024-2025 school year in the ETSD! The theme was first introduced to our students back in June with the release of the Summer Literacy and Math Project, which annually includes one required read modified from the national One School, One Book initiative. In Evesham, the initiative is annually modified to add choice for students and renamed One District, One Theme. The Summer 2024 Responsibility Starts with Me theme allowed students to select any text connected in some ways to responsibility as one of their summer reading books.
Language arts classes started the new school year with discussions on the summer reading books selected, focusing on the theme of responsibility and its connection to CARES. This theme, along with basic routines and structures are established during the first six weeks of school to create safe, inclusive environments in our schools where kindness and learning flourish. Students are challenged to then think about how responsibility can be carried forward throughout the school year. The following questions are posed and set the stage for a positive classroom climate from the very first day of school.
- What does responsibility look like in our classroom? ...In our school? ...In our community?
- How will you be responsible? Why is it important to work together with others?
- How does responsibility connect to kindness?
Natural opportunities will continue to occur at different times throughout the school year to recognize and continue celebrating this important theme. These include, but are not limited to, lessons/activities such as Week of Respect, The Great Kindness Challenge, No Place for Hate and more! What can you do to show responsibility? Please join us in promoting responsibility and kindness in our classrooms, our schools, and our community.
